Just because you installed new windows in the house does not mean you can not save even more money on your heating bill this winter. Average home loses up to 30% of heat through incorrectly sealed openings in the walls, doors, or attic.
Here are some easy ways to prepare your home for brutal MN winter.
- Weatherstrip doors and windows, they all leak air. We recommend using this type of seal for the doors

- Foam seal in your medium size gaps. You can use foam on wood, drywall, metal or plastics. Go around your house and see what openings do you have. Use foam to seal the gaps around water and waste pipes. Weather-tight seal stops air leakage and energy loss where pipes and vents exit through exterior walls.
Insulating Foam Sealant
- Plug open stud cavities in the attic, garage or anywhere else you find open space. Builders in the often skip covering or insulating behind knee walls (partial-height walls where the roof angles down into the top floor), above dropped ceilings or soffits, and above angled ceilings over stairs. Up in the attic, you may need to push insulation away to see if the stud cavities are open.

- Roof insulation plays an important role in reducing the amount of energy you consume for heating and cooling, and in turn reduces your energy bills. A home’s attic access, which could be an attic hatch, pull-down stairs, or a knee-wall door, often, goes un-insulated. By air sealing attic access, you can significantly reduce your heating and cooling costs.
